REIKI
What is Reiki ?
Reiki is a spiritual practice and holistic therapy that originates in Japan Reiki is a holistic therapy that provides relaxation, reduces stress and supports overall. Mind body and soul wellbeing. The word ‘reiki’ is composed of two Japanese words: ‘Rei’ meaning universal energy, and ‘Ki’ which means life energy or vital force. Reiki is often translated as “Universal Life Force energy” or “Spiritually Guides Life Force Energy”. It can also be referred to as “Hand on Healing” or “Spiritual Healing”. Despite having a spiritual foundation Reiki does not follow any specific religious doctrine, therefore can be considered a true open approach accessible to all.
What Happen during reiki ?
The reiki practitioner channels this universal life force energy mainly through their hands, offering it to the recipient. It is completely consensual if the recipient’s soul does not want to accept the energy it will just be gently released back to the universe. The positive energy is offered in the recipient’s best interest, promoting healing, relaxation, and overall wellbeing. The reiki energy will help to unblock internal energies, these blockages can lead to physical or energetic imbalances, which may manifest as illness or distress.
During the reiki session the recipient remains fully clothed and will be encouraged to relax either seated on a comfortable chair or on a treatment couch. The practitioner will gently place their hands lightly on or near energetic areas of the body – dignity is always maintained and the choice of ‘hands-on or hands-off’ is offered. Intimate areas are never used in reiki treatment. The practitioner acts as a conduit for the energy (delivery person), allowing it to flow to the recipient, who may experience sensations of warmth, tingling or relaxation.
What can Reiki help with ?
Reiki is not a substitute for conventional medical treatment. Many people do however find it is a valuable complement to their healthcare regime. It is generally safe and non-invasive making it accessible to people of all ages and health conditions. It can:
1 Promote Relaxation As reiki involves gentle non-invasive touch or energy transfer, it can provide a deep sense of inner peace and relaxation. This relaxation response can then help calm the mind body and soul, reducing anxiety and stressful feelings.
2 Internal Energy Re-Balance Reiki can help you to rebalance the energy flow within the body. Energetic approaches to health including Traditional Chinese Medicine, believe that energy blocks can result in physical and emotional health problems. This suggests that as reiki will work ‘where it is needed’, it will help unblock these obstructions, allowing you to be more balanced energetically.
3 Physical Symptom Relief Anxiety and Stress are known to manifest with physical symptoms such as muscle tension, rapid heartbeat, and shallow breathing. Reiki’s calming effect can help relax tense muscles, slow down the heart rate, and help to regualt deeper rhythmic breathing – hence providing relief from physical symptoms linked to stress and anxiety.
4 Enhances Wellbeing and Self Care Agreeing to experience a reiki treatment involves making a conscious decision to have some time out. As reiki can empower and bring forward innmer feelings of peace, comfort, tranquillity and safety; it helps to become more grounded, reducing the intensity of anxious thoughts and emotions.
There are many other benefits of Reiki. As it works with your personal energy systems the outcomes are not ‘generic’ but individual to you.
Reiki Training
Reiki is taught in levels or degrees, with the aim that the reiki practitioner will progress through various levels of training and attunements / empowerments to deepen their understanding and connection to the universal energy. Fundamentally reiki training is an individual learning process of self-development and enlightenment, with the benefit of being able to offer this energy once key personal learning targets have been met.
Reiki 1 Training is for personal development and aimed as getting used to energy work and how to use the energy. Reiki 1 practitioners are able to offer reiki to friends family and pets informally only.
Reiki 2 training enhances access to energy frequencies and allows the student to practice reiki to the public (with relevant liability insurance etc). Reiki Master / Teacher Training is aimed and spiritual enlightenment of the student, with this the student can attune and teach Reiki to others. Before undertaking reiki training it is important that the student understands that once their
Reiki Master/Teacher attunes them to Reiki, it is for life, and Reiki does change your approach and understanding of life…..for the better!
