Coaching and therapy are both forms of professional support that help individuals improve their well-being, but they serve different purposes, approaches, and goals. While they may overlap in some areas, understanding their distinctions can help you determine which approach is more suitable for your needs at any given time. CV Holistic Therapies is in the fortunate position to offer you both approaches, this means there is a flexible person-centred approach that meets your needs. We are all individual and as such respond better to some approaches.
Therapies offered by CV Holistic Therapies include Hypnosis, Hypno-Healing, Hypnotherapy, Past Life Regression, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT Tapping), Reiki and Acupressure). I do not offer acute or crisis mental health interventions. As a qualified NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and Mind Set Coach, an empowering model based on people making informed choices and having the free will to direct their future.
Both are offered with personal empowerment in mind. As a therapist I see my role as a facilitator, supporter, advocate and sometimes devil’s advocate. Responsibility and accountability for all decisions rests with the client.
Coaching vs. Therapy :
1. Purpose and Focus
Coaching:
Focuses on personal growth, goal achievement, and future aspirations.Coaching help clients work through current challenges, clarify their goals, and develop strategies for improvement in areas like career, relationships, health, spirituality and overall life satisfaction
·The primary goal is empowerment, helping clients achieve their potential and create actionable plans for future success.
Therapy (Hypnosis, EFT, Hypnotherapy):
Focuses on mental health, emotional healing, and resolving past trauma or psychological issues.
Therapists often work with clients to address emotional, psychological, or behavioural issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship problems, addiction, or other mental health challenges.
The primary goal is healing and helping clients understand and manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviours. Therapy often deals with deeper, underlying issues that may require professional intervention.
2. Scope and Nature of Issues Addressed
Coaching:
Coaching tends to be future-oriented, helping clients set goals, develop skills, and improve areas of life like career, health, relationships, or confidence.
Coaches help clients work through challenges in the present—but they typically do not deal with mental health disorders like depression or anxiety.Coaches may help clients overcome obstacles like procrastination, self-doubt, or lack of motivation, often through practical strategies and mindset shifts.
Therapy:
·
Therapy is more focused on emotional health and mental well-being, often addressing issues that are more rooted in the past or deeply ingrained in the psyche.
Therapists may work with clients on mental health concerns, such as depression, trauma, grief, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and addiction.
Therapy often involves exploring underlying causes of emotional pain or patterns of behaviour that may stem from childhood experiences, trauma, or unresolved conflicts.
3. Methods and Approaches
Coaching:
Coaches tend to focus on actionable steps, motivation, and goal-setting.
They may use specific techniques like: Visualization: Envisioning future success.
Cognitive reframing: Shifting limiting beliefs into more empowering ones.
Accountability systems: Setting measurable goals and tracking progress.
Mindfulness or productivity practices: Helping clients develop habits that support their goals.
The coaching process is typically structured with regular check-ins, action plans, and outcomes. Coaches aim to empower clients to take action and move forward.
Therapy:
Hypnosis refers to a state of focused attention, heightened suggestibility, and deep relaxation. It is a natural state that people can enter during activities like daydreaming or intense concentration. During hypnosis, an individual may be more open to suggestion, but it doesn’t necessarily involve any therapeutic purpose. In other words, hypnosis is simply the altered state of consciousness itself.
Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, is the use of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes. It involves a trained and qualified practitioner guiding a person into a hypnotic state to address specific issues like stress, anxiety, pain management, smoking cessation, or phobias. In this context, hypnosis becomes a tool for achieving therapeutic outcomes. The therapist uses guided suggestions and specialist techniques to help the client make positive changes in behaviour, perception, or emotional responses.
Past Life Regression - Past life regression is a hypnotic approach to help you access past lives or previous lifetimes, (memories held in the massive data bank of our unconscious mind). Based on the theory that our current physical, emotional reactions, and the way we respond to problems have their foundation in previous experiences. Past Life regression aims to address and help to heal issues and resolve ‘Karma’ matters that have been carried into one’s present life.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT Tapping): Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), often called tapping, is a mind-body-soul therapy that helps release emotional distress and physical discomfort by stimulating specific meridian points on the body through gentle tapping. By tapping on key acupressure points while focusing on a distressing thought or feeling, the nervous system calms down, reducing stress and reprogramming emotional responses. It blends elements of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), energy medicine, cognitive, and exposure therapy encouraging rebalancing, promoting emotional healing and energy balance.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): A technique used to process trauma. To be offered in the near future.

Therapy
·
Therapy is typically a longer-term process, especially if it involves deep emotional healing or mental health issues. However it can be offered as a short term therapy depending on the need.

Frequency of therapy varies; it may start weekly and taper off as clients make progress.
6. Client Needs and Eligibility

You need someone who is trained and licensed to diagnose and provide clinical support.
Can Coaching and Therapy Overlap?
I
n some cases, coaching and therapy can complement each other, particularly if a person is in therapy for emotional healing but also wants to work on goal-setting, persona (spiritual)l development, or career growth. Some therapists may even integrate coaching techniques into their work. However, CV Holistic Therapies is committed to ensuring people accessing services receive the appropriate support, therefore a clear policy of ‘referring on’ ensuring work outside of clinical expertise and training is not undertaken. Therefore, it is make aware when there is a need for a person to seek additional support or therapy from another practitioner.
Both coaching and therapy are valuable tools for personal growth and well-being, but the right choice depends on your current needs. If you're unsure, it's helpful to talk to a professional who can assess your situation and recommend the best course of action.
